There are many exciting betting markets for football and online bookmakers are always looking to expand their options. This is much the same as me and my kitchen. I am always searching for the next best thing to make my guests.
However, sometimes I like to revert back to my tried and trusted recipes and one of the first and most popular football betting markets is Over and Under.
Do you ask yourself?
- What is, and what does over and under betting means?
- How to win at over and under betting?
- What do i need to know about over and under betting?
This is common questions and you will find the answer by reading on..
The over and under football betting market is something which revolves around the number of goals scored in a game. Not only that, it can refer to the number of goals scored by a specific team but what does over and under mean in football betting?
Some of my dishes are very complex and can take time to understand whereas others are simple and I can create them every day. Over and under betting can also be quite simple to understand with good explanation.
Read on below to find out more about this tasty football betting market.
1. A Simple Yet Effective Recipe
As mentioned above, not all my recipes require a lot of planning and preparation because they are easy to understand and the same applies to over and under betting in football.
One of my most popular dishes is Thai fried prawn and pineapple rice. To someone with little knowledge of cooking, this can look quite a complicated dish but in fact, it is very easy and the same principle applies to the over and under football betting market.
Basically, the over and under football betting market involves betting on the number of goals you think will be scored in a game. The bookmaker will provide odds on various options, with the most popular being 2.5 goals.
You can place a bet on whether a match will see over 2.5 goals or under 2.5 goals. So, if there is 3 or more goals in the game, over 2.5 goals is correct but if there are 2 or fewer goals, under 2.5 goals will be correct.
Essentially, you are betting on whether you think there will be 3 more goals scored in the game. If you do, go for over 2.5 goals, if you don’t you will back under 2.5 goals.
Much like my Thai fried prawn and pineapple rice, it may seem a little complex but it’s actually very simple and that’s why it has become so popular among football gamblers.
2. Watch Me at Work
When I am teaching young academy chefs to cook, I find the best way is often to show them an example of the dish. I like to do the same when answering the question ‘what does over and under betting mean in football?’
Let’s use Barcelona and Real Madrid as an example. On the bookmaker website you have the option to back who you think will win the game but cannot decide between the teams. Then you see the over and under market and realise these teams often produce a lot of goals.
You bet on over 2.5 goals and Barcelona win the match 3-1, meaning you have won the bet.
However, there is another game on between Liverpool and Manchester United and again, you are struggling to pick a winner. However, you notice there has not been many goals between the teams in recent games and back the under 2.5 goals market. The match ends 0-0 and you win the bet.
So, as you can see, much like my Thai fried prawn and pineapple rice, it is very easy to follow.
You may have noticed the bookmakers use halve numbers for over and under betting in football and doing so prevents there from being no winner. If there are 2 or under goals scored, under 2.5 goals is a winner, if there are 3 or more goals scored, over 2.5 goals is a winner, there is nothing in-between.
3. Additional Ingredients
Thanks to the simplicity of Thai fried prawn and pineapple rice, you can add many optional extras to the dish, such as a handful of coriander leaves. This adds to the taste but you do not have to use it if you prefer something else.
The over and under football markets are much the same and if you do not want to bet on over or under 2.5 goals, you can choose a variant on the market such as 1.5 goals or 3.5 goals.
This becomes useful if there is a match between two teams who struggle to score goals, meaning you can back under 1.5 goals at better odds than under 2.5 goals. The same can be said for two teams who are scoring and conceding a lot of goals, where you can back over 3.5 goals or even over 4.5 goals if you wish.
You can also bet on the over and under market for each half of a football match. So, if a team likes to come out and attack early, like Liverpool for example, you can back there to be over 1.5, 2.5 or 3.5 goals in the first half of the match. The same applies to the second half of the match.
4. Great Combinations
As a Chef, I appreciate the importance of combining dishes and drinks. For example, if I was to cook a lean steak, I would serve a light bodied red wine as they compliment each other perfectly.
Having gained an understanding of the over and under in football betting, you might be able to guess another betting market which will combine with it nicely.
There are several options, with two of the most popular including match result and both teams to score. So, you can bet on over 2.5 goals and both teams to score as one bet and improve your odds.
5. Delicious Alternatives
Now you know what over and under betting means in football, we can look at the delicious alternative versions of this market.
Using my Thai fried prawn and pineapple rice dish as an example, if I have a friend who does not like prawn, I will use a great alternative such as king oyster mushrooms. The dish remains flavoursome but adds something different and from my cooking experience, people like to have a choice.
You can bet on over and under for a specific team rather than both teams combined. If you have done your research and noticed one of the teams involved in the game has scored 3 or more goals in four of their last five games, you may want to bet on them to score over 2.5 goals. You can do this using the team total goals market.
If you do not like betting with half numbers, you also have the option to bet on exact numbers of goals scored in a football match. The number of goals scored in a match usually has three options, which are under 2 goals, 2 or 3 goals and over 3 goals.
5. Stop Cooking
Occasionally, I will be cooking a great dish in the kitchen, take a quick taste and it is so good, I decide to stop cooking before the end of the recipe.
When betting on the over and under football markets, you have the same choice to make when the match is in progress. If you bet on the under 2.5 goals market, the score is 1-0 at half-time and the second half begins with both teams attacking more than you predicted, you may decide to cash out your bet and take the bookmakers’ offer.
However, you must be aware that if the game ends at 1-0, you will have accepted less winnings than if you waited until the end of the match. Conversely, if the match ended 2-2, you will be very happy with yourself.
So, now you have a great understanding of over and under in football betting, you can enjoy betting on one of the most appetising online football markets available.
